It’s always nice when candidates in any election speak their mind openly!

Though the inclusiveness at the DNC was very evident by subtle references to “standing at the altar with the one you love” or “not hiding who we love” or relating to the repeal of DADT with statements about “serving the country you love no matter who you love,” the speakers at the DNC were careful not to utter the words gay or lesbian. Many speeches included comparative descriptions like rich and poor, young and old, black and white, but they often fell short of saying gay and straight. A few of the presenters were bold enough to say the words gay or lesbian, but they were in the minority. While there was no questioning that the Democrats have gone all-in on including support for LGBT issues in the 2012 platform, the indirect wording deserves some analysis.
