The 10/2 Zits, with an ambiguity, exploited by Jeremy:
There’s a variety of senses of the V go in construction with a PP with head P with, among them:
1 ‘accompany’, as in I went (to the movie) with Kim.
2 ‘belong in association with’, as in That fork goes with the ones in the top drawer.
3 ‘select, choose’, as in I’ll go with that wallpaper.
4 ‘date (someone) regularly’, as in I’ve started going with Sandy; we date regularly.
5 ‘fit with’, as in This tie will go nicely with that suit.
Jeremy’s mother intends #5, but Jeremy chooses to understand #2.
